Minister: Fisheries A Live, Dynamic Part Of Agriculture Sector

Tehran, Sept 17, IRNA – Minister of Agriculture Jihad Mahmoud Hojjati says Iran’s fisheries is a live and growing sector which enjoys apparent and hidden capacities. While inspecting the Fisheries Organization, Hojjati outlined issues of the past, present and future in Iran’s fisheries. Last year 880 thousand tons of fish were caught and presented to the market throughout the country of which 500 thousand tons were caught in northern and southern waters of Iran and 350 thousand tons through aquatic culture. The figure, as compared to the calendar year 1391 (2012-2013), showed an increase of 3% in the fish catch in north and south of Iran and 10% in the field of aquatic culture. Over 140 thousand tons of cold water fish, 170 thousand tons of warm water fish and 13 thousand tons of shrimp were produced in the calendar year 1392 (2012-2014)./end
