Minister of Foreign Affairs meets UN High Commissioner for Human Rights

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani, met with the United Nations (UN) High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk on the sidelines of the minister's participation in Human Rights Council meetings in Geneva. The minister congratulated the High Commissioner for assuming this important position, wishing him success in his duties as the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. He stressed the interest of the Kingdom’s leadership to strengthen national efforts to protect human rights, and to develop cooperation with Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). The High Commissioner welcomed the minister and the Kingdom’s delegation in reviewing Bahrain's report on human rights. He expressed the readiness of the Commission to provide all forms of support and exchange of experiences in the field of promoting and protecting human rights. He said that international cooperation in this field and within the framework of the UN would achieve the goals and objectives of the international organization and confirm its role in sustainable development in the countries of the world. The meeting discussed means to enhance Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA)-OHCHR cooperation in the areas related to the development of human rights and exchanged views on issues of common concern.
