Minister participates in Arab ministerial meeting on Iran

Manama, Mar. 27 (BNA): Minister of Foreign Affairs, Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, took part in the Arab Ministerial Quartet Committee on following up on the crisis with Iran as well as ways to address its interference in the internal affairs of Arab states. The committee, consisting of the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and the Arab Republic of Egypt as well as the Arab League Secretary General, held its meeting today at the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan on the sidelines of the meeting of Foreign Ministers in preparation for the Arab League Council meeting at the Summit level in its 28th ordinary session. It discussed developments in the crisis with the Islamic Republic of Iran, the course of Arab relations with Iran and ways to deal with Iranian interference in the internal affairs of Arab countries. The committee condemned the continued Iranian interference in the internal affairs of Arab countries and the provocative statements made by Iranian officials against Arab states. It expressed deep concern over Iran's sectarian strife in Arab countries and the resulting chaos and instability in the region, which obstructs regional and international efforts to resolve the issues and crises of the region by peaceful means, calling upon Iran to stop doing so. The committee also approved the recommendations issued by the team of experts at the level of senior officials aimed at establishing an Arab action plan to address Iranian Interventions in the Arab Region. It praised the response of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, included in the address of the Amir of the State of Kuwait to the Iranian president, calling on Iran to positively deal with this initiative to bolster regional security and stability. The committee called on Iran to comply with the implementation of Security Council Resolution 2231 (2015) and the need to implement an effective mechanism to verify the implementation of the agreement, the inspection, control and the re-imposition of sanctions quickly and effectively. This is in case of Iran's violation of its obligations under the agreement. It also stressed the importance of Iran's accession to all non-proliferation treaties, taking into account the environmental problems in the area.
