Minister:Thailand's water situation this year is under control
BANGKOK, September 1 (TNA) - Minister Attached to the Prime Minister’s Office Niwattumrong Boonsongpaisan says that the Thai government has closely monitored the country's water situation and should bring the situation under control this year.
Speaking during the weekly broadcast programme of Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra Saturday morning, Niwattumrong insisted that the Thai government is determined to prevent floods from reoccurring this year, in the wake of the country's massive flooding late last year, and that Thais and foreign visitors in the Kingdom now appear to gain more confidence in the government's flood prevention and solution.
Niwattumrong's remarks were made as Thailand is now facing the annual monsoon season, causing widespread downpours with flooding in many areas.
The minister invited the public to visit the Thai government's water exhibition, being held from August 31-September 2 at the Bangkok Convention Hall of Central Plaza in the capital's Lat Phrao area, in which the administration's water management and flood prevention plans are showcased.
According to the minister, the exhibition is aimed at informing the public of how the Thai government has worked and will implement in the future in preventing and solving flood-related problems so that people will better understand and gain more confidence in the government's work.
The minister acknowledged that the Thai government has followed His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s advice on solving the flood-related problems in upstream, midstream and downstream areas and a "Single Command Centre" for flood prevention and solution has been set up.
Meanwhile, crowds of people have visited the government's grand water exhibition, in which they were welcome by Premier Yingluck herself and some other Cabinet members Saturday morning. (TNA)
