Ministry of Environment to Participate in Qatar's National Sports Day
Doha, February 09 (QNA) - The Ministry of Environment will participate in Qatar's National Sports Day on Tuesday, Feb.14th by organizing several sports activities on the Doha Corniche ground on the occasion.
The Ministry staff will take part in the two-way national Sports Day march, which will be held between the "Oryx" field located at the Doha Corniche and the Sheraton Doha Hotel at 09 am in the attendance of senior officials and personalities.
Whereas the public's march will start at 10 am, with the participation of the ministry staff, from Sheraton Doha Hotel to Al-Mourjan yard and the Museum of Islamic Art, and is due to finish with fireworks on the Corniche at 8 pm. Contests with prizes to participants and visitors will take place in parallel with the march period.
The ministry's football team will also participate in the quadripartite championship taking place at 8 pm at the Markhiya Sports Club under the auspices of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC). The team will play against Qatar Building Company in the first match. The second match takes place between the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning teams, for the winning teams to finalize with a friendly face-off in the last match of that same day.
The Supreme Council of Health had formulated a team composed of members of different departments to ensure the success of the event in light of the importance of sports to general health and body building in addition to helping domestic institutions achieve their goals by creating a healthy community at both physical and psychological levels.
The team is headed by Khaled al-Naemi, its members include Salim Othman, Fahd al-Shamary, Abdullah Abu Shayeh, and Head of the sports team Saleh al-Harby.
QOC had previously addressed all sports clubs and federations across the country to open the gates of their facilities for all community individuals on Tuesday to allow visitors to practice different types of sports and gain further knowledge on sports culture. Many Qatari institutions will be part of the day's celebrations.
The Qatar Railways Company has announced its involvement in this initiative by organizing a multitude of activities for the occasion, the Qatar Postal Corporation (Q-Post) will issue a stamp to mark the day and will honour the players of the Qatar Football Team, and the Qatar University Sports Day will comprise an integrated programme of activities in which students, graduates, staff and their families, and those with special needs, will participate.
It is worth mentioning that HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, had issued the Emiri Decree No. /80/ on 06 December 2011, which states that Tuesday of the second week of February each year, will be the State’s National Sports Day. (QNA)
