MoFA undersecretary visits GPIC

Manama, Oct. 22 (BNA): Ministry of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary and Head of Weapon of Mass Destruction (WMD) Committee Dr. Shaikha Rana bint Isa bin Daij Al Khalifa has visited the Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC), where she was received by GPIC President Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery. The visit came within the framework of strengthening bilateral relations between the Company, the Government sector and various institutions. Dr. Jawahery gave the visitor a briefing on the nature of the Company's business and strategy, its operational details, production and exports, as well as its most important achievements and awards it has won. He said the Company’s products are characterized by their high quality and are manufactured by applying the best international standards in safety, quality and environmental conservation. He also spoke about the state-of-the-art carbon dioxide recovery plant, which is the first of its kind in the Middle East. The undersecretary expressed her admiration at the project, which contributes significantly to the reduction of harmful emissions produced from factory operations. Dr. Shaikha Rana went on a tour of the complex, accompanied by Dr. Jawahery, members of the executive management and senior officials. During the tour, she saw the several environmental projects set up to support sustainability and to draw attention to the importance of environmental protection. She also visited the HRH Princess Sabeeka Garden for Aromatic Plants, the Medicinal Herbs and Plants Garden, the Olive Oasis, the Charity Fish Farm and the Bird Sanctuary. Dr. Shaikha Rana later planted a tree at the complex to commemorate her visit and to stress the importance of environmental orientation, which the Company is committed to. She said she was very pleased to see GPIC’s development and its stress on conserving the environment. She said she was also very impressed at the implementation of the best safety and security standards and added the Company's reputation had travelled from Bahrain, to the region and beyond. She said GPIC is a source of great pride for Bahrain and partner Gulf states. She said the Company employees display a great sense of pride and professionalism. She also applauded the management for providing outstanding care to the staff, who are the company’s real wealth. Dr. Shaikha Rana thanked the Management for the invitation to visit the Company and to make her aware of the role the Company plays in supporting the national economy and sustainable development issues. She also thanked Dr. Jawahery and others for the welcome and the hospitality and said GPIC had set an example in communicating with various bodies. She said she would look forward to visiting GPIC once again in the near future.
