More insurgents plan to surrender to Thai authorities

BANGKOK, September 17 (TNA) - Another group of insurgents will surrender to authorities in Thailand’s restive south this month after 93 turned themselves in last week, says Deputy Prime Minister Yutthasak Sasiprapa. General Yutthasak told reporters Monday that governors of the southern border provinces have informed him about the new defection of insurgents and he plans to receive those who surrender by himself. General Yutthasak also said that he has instructed the 4th army commander to explain local people about steps taken by the government to convince the insurgents to surrender as some still believe that it is the government’s set-up. He further said that only three of the 93 insurgents surrendered last week, are charged under the Criminal Procedure Code. Others were found to have violated the emergency decree. (End)
