More one-stop service centers for migrant workers

BANGKOK, March 2 (TNA) -- The Labour Ministry has opened two more one-stop service (OSS) centres as 1.4 million migrant workers must seek work permits at such facilities within March 31. Inspecting one of the new OSS centers on the ground floor of his ministry in Din Daeng district, Bangkok, Labour Minister Adul Saensingkeo said the OSS centers updated the profiles of Myanmar, Lao and Cambodian workers, scanned their fingerprints, check up their health, register their social security coverage and stamp their visas. About 1.44 million migrant workers had yet to undergo the process, he said. Another newly established centre is at Tang Hua Seng department store. The labour minister urged employers to bring their migrant workers to OSS centers which, he said, numbers four in Bangkok and 80 in 76 other provinces before March 31. After passing the process, the workers whose citizenships were verified can stay in Thailand until March 31, 2020. Those whose citizenships have not been verified can stay until June 30. They number about 700,000 and must have their nationality verified within the deadline. (TNA)
