04 : 11 PM - 01/01/2017 Manama, Jan. 1 (BNA): Morocco expressed full support to the Palestinian issue and the legitimate national struggle to establish an independent sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, under the leadership of President Mahmoud Abbas. Moroccan Ambassador to Bahrain Ahmed Rashid Khatabi stressed at a celebration organised by the Palestinian state in Manama yesterday evening marking the 52nd anniversary of the Palestinian Revolution that a final settlement of the Palestinian cause requires giving up violation of the international law by Israel and implementation of the international resolutions. He pointed out the latest resolution of the UN Security Council 2334 on stopping the Israeli settlement activities on the occupied Palestinian lands, including East Jerusalem. He noted that the resolution was issued with an unprecedented international consensus, turning it into a historic resolution in the history of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. He noted that the issue of Jerusalem is the real key to achieving the aspired peace, pointing out the strong emotional links of the Moroccan people with this sacred city. He also underlined the major and effective role played by Moroccan Monarch King Mohammed VI, the Head of Jerusalem Committee of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, in urging the international to defend the special status of Jerusalem as a land under occupation since 1967. The Moroccan ambassador highlighted the initiatives of King Mohammed VI to carry out a comprehensive scheme to support Jerusalem and promote its distinguished religious and civilisational character, being a symbol of religious co-existence.
