Mountain festival for 90th anniversary of “Kazakhstanskaya pravda”

Shymkent, August 05, 2009 (Khabar) - A mountain festival dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the “Kazakhstanskaya pravda” newspaper has been held in South Kazakhstan in the Sairam-su canyon. The ascent of journalists and pass hopping fans to the mountain top which has born the name of “Kazpravda” for six years has become the festival’s climax. The peak itself rises 4034 meters above the sea-level. The route to the top is not very difficult for professional mountain climbers. Arrangements were prepared in the matter of minutes and two groups headed for the base camp. They had to spend one night on a non-melting glacier and one day was left for conquering a peak and returning to the camp. This time, the weather decided to put travelers to the endurance test.

Yerbol Urazalin, head of group, mountain climber:
- This is quite a difficult climb for beginners in physical terms. Its complexity was aggravated by a snowstorm and strong blasts of wind which tried to force us to jump off the crest. However, everybody reached the mountain top and displayed persistence, strong will, and courage.

The group of 16 people had a common task of reaching the top. However, everyone was climbing to the peak with their own goals. Dulat Moldabayev, the special correspondent of “Kazakhstanskaya pravda” had to set the newspaper’s banner on a mountain top. High mountains, the lack of oxygen in the air and a constant steep ascent were all a difficult trial for a person who has grown up on level land.

Dulat Moldabayev, “Kazakhstankaya pravda” newspaper correspondent:
- I saw that the rest of the group was approaching the peak while I came to only to the glacier. I had two flags. If they had climbed down before me, I would have stayed alone. As I reached the top I saw that they were still there. I felt a great satisfaction. People get quickly close to each other there. You don’t even have to ask for their names, you just smile to cheer them up and that’s it.

Mountaineers were welcomed and congratulated warmly at the camp. Artists depicted the conquered mountains in paints whereas poets and bards in poems and songs.
