Move To Curb Students From Taking Low Quality Courses In UK
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 7 (Bernama) -- The British government is eyeing measures to ensure that foreign students do not pursue low quality courses or enrol in less than desirable universities.
British High Commissioner to Malaysia Vicki Treadell said there were universities in the United Kingdom which offered places to foreign students despite not meeting the high standards required by the government.
"There are students who have started at colleges and institutions that actually don't meet the kind of standards we would expect," she told a press conference after the launch of Oxford International AQA Examinations international qualifications in Southeast Asia here Thursday.
She said further scrutiny of student applications should be seen as a means to safeguard the quality of education offered by the UK.
The Oxford AQA Exams is a joint venture between Oxford University Press, a department of the University of Oxford, and AQA, the UK's leading academic awarding body.
