NACC unveils assets, liabilities of Thailand's former MPs

BANGKOK, February 4 (TNA) - Thailand's National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) has posted assets and liabilities that former MPs declared after the House dissolution on December 9, 2013. According to the NACC announcement on Tuesday, Thailand's Caretaker Prime Minister and Defence Minister Yingluck Shinawatra had about 603 million baht worth of assets and about 28 million baht of liabilities. Yingluck's assets increased by about 50 million baht. When she first took office on August 2, 2011, she declared assets worth 547 million baht and liabilities worth 28 million baht.. Former opposition Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva had assets worth 54 million baht and had no debt. Former deputy agriculture and cooperatives minister Nattawut Saikuar had assets worth 33 million baht and liabilities worth 14 million baht. Before taking office, he had assets worth 21 million baht and liabilities worth 6.7 million baht. Former commerce minister Boonsong Teriyapirom had 28 million baht worth of assets and liabilities worth 120,000 baht, compared with 4.7 million baht worth of assets and liabilities worth 200,000 baht before taking office. Former deputy commerce minister Phum Saraphol had 28 million baht worth of assets and he was free of debt. Before taking office, he had 43 million baht worth of assets and was debt-free. Porntiva Nakasai, former commerce minister in the Abhisit government, had assets worth 117 million baht and liabilities worth 1.8 million baht. Before taking office as an MP, she had assets worth 116 million baht and liabilities worth 950 million baht. Tuesday's announcement was the NACC's latest report on assets and liabilities that 487 out of 491 MPs had declared. Last month the anti-graft commission disclosed assets and liabilities of nine former Democrat MPs who resigned to lead anti-government protests on November 11, 2013, showing that leader of the anti-government People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) Suthep Thaugsuban had about 210 million baht worth of assets and 323 million baht of liabilities. The NACC has not yet looked into irregularities in the declared assets and liabilities of all the former MPs (TNA)
