Narathiwat declared disaster zone affected by flood

NARATHIWAT, Nov 30 (TNA) - Many southern provinces are submerged under high floodwater while Narathiwat province declared all districts disaster zones affected by flood. Flood in the southernmost province of Narathiwat extends to cover the province’s all 13 districts. The situations in three districts are critical, including Ra-ngae district where 2,700 houses are under 1-1.5 metres of water. Flooding in the provincial seat and Su-ngai Kolok district is about one metre deep or more. In Trang province, flood extends to seven districts due to overnight rainfall. The Trang River has overflowed its banks and flooded a by-pass road in Muang district. About one kilometer of both inbound and outbound lanes has been inundated. Villagers have to use the rope to help them walk through floodwater. In Phatthalung, the situation is worrying. All 11 districts are flooded. Out of all, six districts are hard hit. The floodwater is more than one metre high and 22 schools are forced to close. Local authorities have distributed relief supplies to flood victims. In Songkhla, the water in U Tapao canal keeps rising and flows swiftly. It damaged part of road and a bridge, connecting two villages in Hat Yai district and Klong Hoi Kong คลองหอยโข่ง district. Officials erected barriers to ban entering by villagers. Roads along the canal have been eroded by the raging water. (TNA)
