Nasser bin Hamad's IRONMAN victory commemorative stamps issued

Manama, Nov. 8 (BNA): Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications (MTT)’ Bahrain Post has issued Commemorative Stamp marking His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa’s victory in the IRON MAN World Championship (XC Division) 2018, Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. On this occasion, the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunication’s Bahrain Post was delighted to issue one commemorative stamp crowned by the portrait of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of the Kingdom of Bahrain. HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, representative of His Majesty the King for Charity and Youth Affairs, marked a day in history with his commendable win of first place in the Iron Man World Championship in Hawaii, where His Highness covered a distance of 226.26 km at a record time of 9.19 hours. It is worth noting that His Highness has accomplished many notable achievements in other championships including in Germany, Florida, Southeast Asia, the Philippines, South Africa, in addition to the Syracuse Race held in New York, where he was able to achieve a record time in the tournament, and later followed by participating in a race in Texas. The Iron Man Championship in Kona City - Hawaii Island, was the largest in the history of world tournaments in terms of participation and public attendance due to the importance of the championship and in celebration of the 40th anniversary since its inception. More than 3,000 competitors from 82 countries around the world aged from 18 -85 participated in the race, the most versatile tournament in terms of age, in addition to male and female participants. The World Triathlon or "IRONMAN" is a sport consisting of three races, starting with swimming and then cycling and running, born between 1920 and 1930 in France and increased in popularity in the late 1980s with the establishment of an international federation of the sport in 1989. In 2000, during the Sydney Olympic Games, 52 athletes participated in this sport for the first time as part of the men's competitions. The stamp are available in all Bahrain Post branches in 400 fils, and first day cover 750 fils.
