National Committee for Information and Population holds virtual meeting

Manama, July 16 (BNA): The National Committee for Information and Population convened in a virtual meeting chaired by Minister of Cabinet Affairs Mohammed bin Ibrahim Al Mutawa. The meeting addressed the recommendations and outcomes of the workshop, held in cooperation with the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), related to improving Bahrain's statistical indicators in the United Nations organizations. The meeting also reviewed the proposed action plan to implement the recommendations. Al Mutawa stressed the interest of the government headed by His Royal Highness Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Prime Minister, in updating regularly the statistical indicators of the various national sectors, based on their importance in achieving transparency and improving Bahrain's standing in specialized international reports. He pointed out that maintaining Bahrain's progress in the field of sustainable development needs the continuous development of a database and statistical indicators in order to identify the rates of achievement and complete the work system in various sectors. Al Mutawa stressed Bahrain's interest in strengthening and consolidating cooperation with the United Nations, its programs and specialized agencies in everything to achieve the goals of sustainable development at the local, regional and international levels. The minister commended the cooperation of the government agencies with the National Committee for Information and Population and their keenness to support the efforts to achieve the sustainable development goals. He reiterated the need to pay attention to providing international organizations with reports that include accurate statistics and information on Bahrain in accordance with accepted international methodologies. The meeting discussed setting national priorities for sustainable development, according to the letter received from the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) on following up on the recommendations of the sustainable development program team. The committee reviewed the plan to launch the website of the Sustainable Development Goals.
