Nat'l Oncology Center holds World Cancer Day event
Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The National Center for Oncology ran Tuesday an awareness-raising event called "Cancer is not invincible" on the occasion of the World Cancer Day, observed every February 4.
A ceremony also ran for the opening of the Fifth National Anti-Cancer Campaign organized by the center, KhanBank and Mongolian National Public Radio and Television.
Statistics show that three out of four cancer patients in Mongolia get diagnosed at the critical level of their diseases, which makes various kinds of cancers become a second most common cause of death. Mongolia has 4,200 people diagnosed with cancer, three thous. die of cancer every year. The biggest portion of the cancer cases--38 percent--is reported to be of liver cancer, others--of stomach, cervix, lung, esophagus, breast and colon cancers. The oncologists have noted that a greater number of liver cancer in Mongolia is caused by alcoholism.
The National Center for Oncology is working to implement the Third National Program on Preventing Cancer in 2015-2020. The Strategies of earlier diagnosis of breast and cervix cancer were commenced nationwide in 2012, the strategies on earlier diagnosis of liver cancer are being implemented from this year onwards.
