NBTC campaigns for consumer protection this year

BANGKOK, January 15 (TNA) - The National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) is determined to campaign for consumer protection this year and will speed up the introduction of digital television and an auction for the 1800MHz frequency range for 4G mobile phone services in Thailand. NBTC Chairman Air Chief Marshal Thares Punsri told a press conference in Bangkok on Tuesday that the NBTC implemented three master plans on frequency management, broadcasting and telecommunications in the first year of its operations last year and it plans to campaign for consumer protection this year. NBTC Vice Chairman Colonel Nathee Sukolrat, who is also Chairman of the NBTC’s Broadcasting Committee, said, meanwhile, that his panel will, this year, speed up the introduction of digital television in Thailand to modernize broadcasting services, including the creation of standards for broadcasting and relevant equipment so that relevant parties can prepare themselves for digital television. NBTC Vice Chairman Colonel Sethapong Malisuwan, who is also Chairman of the NBTC’s Telecommunications Committee, noted that last year the NBTC organized an auction for 3G mobile phone operational licenses and issued the licenses for three operators which will officially launch their 3G services in the first half of this year. Colonel Sethapong announced that his panel will seriously campaign for the protection of 3G mobile phone users and speed up an auction for the 1800MHz frequency range for 4G mobile phone services in Thailand this year to meet growing demand. Besides, his committee plans to quickly expand basic telecommunications services nationwide. (TNA)
