Nearly 100 foreigners arrested in nationwide crackdown
BANGKOK, April 26 (TNA) – Tourist police nabbed 93 foreigners in the operations, launched nationwide to crack down on those foreigners, who overstay their visas and entered the kingdom illegally.
Deputy tourist police chief Pol Maj-General Surachet Hakpal said that the police searched 118 spots across the country, particularly at major tourist destinations as well international schools and language institutes.
The operations led to the arrests of 93 foreigners, violating the law. Eighteen persons have been charged with overstaying their visas and 62 others illegally entered the country. The rest 13 persons have arrest warrants for criminal offences, including a Nigerian for having illegal drug in his possession.
Their DNA samples will be taken from all persons arrested to prevent them from returning to the kingdom.
According to the investigation, some came to Thailand to earn a living as English teachers, professional football players and loan sharks. (TNA)
