New authority vows to speed up Thailand's 10-line electric rail services
BANGKOK, October 8 (TNA) - Newly-appointed Permanent Secretary-General for Transport Police General Wichien Poteposri has vowed to speed up putting Thailand's new 10-line electric trains into operations with a flat fare rate of 20 baht to solve traffic congestion in Bangkok and peripheral areas.
Police General Wichien, who is a former National Security Council (NSC) secretary-general and a former national police chief, announced the policy when taking his new office at the Ministry of Transport Monday morning.
Police General Wichien also promised to accelerate the construction of an extended rail line of Airport Link, a mass electric rail transit system connecting Bangkok's inner areas with Thailand's main Suvarnabhumi International Airport, run by the State Railway of Thailand (SRT), on its Suvarnabhumi-Don Mueang Airports route.
According to the new top-rank transport official, he will speed up the second-phase construction of the Suvarnabhumi International Airport as well. (TNA)
