New Parliament building to serve Thai lawmakers after general election

BANGKOK, August 24 (TNA) - The construction of main structures of Thailand's new Parliament in Bangkok has been set to be completed by mid-2019 to timely serve lawmakers, following the country's new general election set by early next year. Sorasak Pienvej, Secretary-General of the House of Representatives, told journalists of the update on Friday, saying that the contracted construction firm has confirmed that the construction of the assembly hall and offices of commissioners and parliamentary officials will be completed by mid-2019, which is timely to serve the new batch of Thai lawmakers after the new general election. Sorasak revealed that the construction of structures of the new Thai Parliament has been about 51 per cent-completed and the construction work will be accelerated from now on. The Lower House's secretary-general explained that an additional state budget of about 1.27 billion baht, from an earlier allocated 3.59 billion baht, has been approved by the Thai government, making the accelerating construction of the new Parliament possible.
