New Russian language centre to open in China

BEIJING, June 10 (Itar-Tass) - An agreement was signed in the Russian Embassy in China on Tuesday on cooperation between Moscow City Pedagogical University and a school of the central Chinese province of Henan to set up a centre to teach and spread the Russian language for the young generation of the province. Along with language learning, Chinese schoolchildren will be acquainted with Russia's history and culture. The Russian side will send its language teachers to the centre and present its teaching methods. In accordance with the agreement, the Russian university will develop its projects together with Chinese colleagues, and Russian students who learn the Chinese language will have practice at the school. The agreement is aimed at consolidating Chinese-Russian friendship and cooperation in education, science and culture. The university's provost for development programmes and international activities, Vadim Grinshkun, said "we train translators and linguists, and we have a rather large Chinese department. There are schools that teach the Chinese language to children and we train teachers for them." "Our students have practice at the schools, and some go to various Chinese universities for student exchanges or practice. In this case, we are interested in cooperation with the school, as it could be a base for our students to practice," he said, adding the Chinese side was also interested in such cooperation. Participating in the signing ceremony were Russian Ambassador to China Andrei Denisov, officials of the Chinese city of Shangqiu, Chinese education ministry officials and representatives from the Moscow University and the Chinese school.
