New tactics in Thai far South

YALA, September 7 (TNA) - Authorities have now implemented new strategic tactics in Thailand's violence-plagued far South, focusing on public participation in providing security in the southernmost region. As part of the new tactics, Yala Governor Detrat Simsiri led his entourage to visit Muang and Lam Mai Districts on Friday, where village security volunteers have been deployed under a pilot project, 24 in each sub-district, to support security operations of local communities leaders, as well as soldiers and police. Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung chaired a meeting of agencies concerned at the Royal Thai Police Office in Bangkok this afternoon to discuss intelligence improvement and solutions to the persistent violent unrest in the Thai deep South.
