New Thai pavilion opened inside US Embassy
BANGKOK, Feb 4 (TNA) - A new Thai pavilion, or Sala Thai, inside the US Embassy in Bangkok has now been inaugurated in honour of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej on the auspicious occasion of His Majesty’s 84th birthday on December 5, 2011.
Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn presided over the inauguration ceremony of the Thai pavilion, built and funded by the US government, at the US Embassy to Thailand on Friday.
The newly-opened pavilion was located on the same ground of the old Sala Thai, built in 1988 to celebrate the beloved Thai monarch's 5th cycle birthday, as it was revived from the old structure. In 2010, all components of the old Sala Thai were assembled on the new 6x9 metre Thai pavilion and adorned with ornamental decorations of the traditional Thai Lanna style.
A smaller Sala Thai was, however, parallelly built in the more contemporary Rattanakosin style with the emblem of the celebration of His Majesty the King’s 5th cycle birthday. (TNA)
