New train line to help market booming

BANGKOK, Oct 17 (TNA) -- A new electric train line will further help Bangkok’s Chatuchak Market booming while the operator is thinking of building a walkway to the market to facilitate market vendors and the shoppers, said State Railway of Thailand governor Wuthichart Kalayanamitr on Saturday. Mr Wuthichart said several transportation systems would be constructed near Chatuchak Market in future, for example, the so-called red line of electric train which will also have a maintenance depot. The market is expected to be bullish as more shoppers are expected to visit after the electric train is operated, he said, adding that he would consult with related agencies to build a walkway from the station to the market to facilitate both the vendors and the shoppers. He said a parking building which could accommodate over 1,000 cars is now planned. Meanwhile, Chatri Sophonbunnaraksa, president of Chatuchak Market Traders Association, said he believed more people would visit the market if the walkway is built and the parking building completes soonest. Between 200,000 – 250,000 shoppers visit the market during weekends presently, said Mr Chatri. (TNA)
