Newspapers Demand Urgent Action to Stop Israeli Attacks Against Palestinians

Doha, May 09 (QNA) - Qatari newspapers published on Sunday called on the Arabs and the international community to act urgently to stop the repeated Israeli attacks against the Palestinian people and Al-Aqsa Mosque, adding that the victim should not be equated with the executioner, as some countries are trying to blame the defenseless Palestinians who are demanding their legitimate rights that were robbed by the Israeli occupation. The newspapers stressed that the Palestinian issue is the central issue of the State of Qatar, adding that Qatar will not give up its support for the Palestinian people until they obtain their legitimate rights to establish their independent state on the 1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital. Al-Sharq, in its editorial, stressed that the State of Qatar continues its actions at all levels in the face of the current developments in Palestine, which includes the attacks by the Israeli occupation against worshipers in Al-Aqsa Mosque and the citizens of Jerusalem, in addition to the arbitrary measures in Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in Jerusalem, which constitute a flagrant violation of their rights and international law. It referred to the phone call made by HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani to HE President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas and the call HH received from head of the political bureau of the Islamic Resistance Movement in Palestine (Hamas) Dr Ismail Haniyeh. During the two called, HH the Amir and the Palestinian leaders discussed the latest developments in Palestine, and Qatar's firm and supportive stance of the Palestinian people was affirmed, while the repeated attacks of the occupation forces on defenseless civilians and worshipers in Al-Aqsa Mosque was condemned, Al-Sharq said. The newspaper noted that the State of Qatar will chair on Monday an extraordinary session of the Arab League Council at the level of permanent representatives at the headquarters of the Arab League to discuss Israeli crimes and the attacks in the occupied city of Jerusalem and the Israeli plans to seize the homes of Jerusalemites, especially in Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood. It emphasized that the ongoing Israeli attacks in Palestinian require unifying the Palestinian, Arab and Islamic ranks, reviving joint action on all fronts to confront this aggression and putting pressure on the international community to fulfill its responsibilities and mobilize all mechanism of the international community to hold the occupation accountable for the crimes it continues to commit against the Palestinian people. Al-Sharq concluded by saying that the escalation in occupied Jerusalem and the Islamic and Christian holy sites will not pass unnoticed, as it constitute a grave provocation to the feelings of Muslims everywhere. Al-Raya newspaper said that HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani renewed, during a phone call he made with HE President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas and during another call he received from Head of the Political Bureau of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) Dr. Ismail Haniyeh, the State of Qatar's firm position in support of the Palestinian cause and the Palestinian people, affirming that the Palestinian cause is the central issue of the State of Qatar and that Qatar will not give up its support for the Palestinian people until they obtain their legitimate rights to establish their independent state on the 1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital. The paper called on the Arabs and the international community to move urgently to stop the repeated Israeli attacks against the Palestinian people and Al-Aqsa Mosque, especially since everyone is aware of the just nature of the Palestinian cause and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. Al Raya asked the international community to not equate the victim with the executioner, as some countries try to blame the defenseless Palestinians who demand their legitimate rights that were stolen by the Israeli occupation. The extraordinary session of the Arab League Council at the level of permanent representatives, chaired by the State of Qatar on Monday at the headquarters of the Arab League to discuss Israeli crimes in occupied Jerusalem should not be an ordinary meeting in view of the current developments in Jerusalem and the various areas in the West Bank and Gaza Strip due to Israeli practices, the paper said. Furthermore, this meeting should crystallize a strict Arab stance towards the Israeli attacks in the occupied city of Jerusalem against the Islamic and Christian holy sites, especially Al-Aqsa Mosque and the attack on the worshipers, in addition to the Israeli plans to forcibly take over the homes of citizens of Al Quds, particularly in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, Al Raya explained. Moreover, Al Raya stressed that the issue is not in the meeting, but rather in the decisions issued by it, and therefore it is important that the Arab League keep pace with the pulse of the Arab street and comes out with courageous decisions that deter the Israeli occupation, given that what is happening in Jerusalem is an uprising that must continue and will not stop until Israel stops its daily practices towards the Palestinian people, including daily attacks, desecration of holy sites, confiscation of lands, and displacement of the population. Al Raya said that the Israeli storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque is reprehensible, and cannot be justified, especially since it came during Ramadan. Therefore, it is important for there to be a strict Arab and Islamic stance that obliges the international community to put an end to the practices of occupation, which are a provocation to the feelings of millions of Muslims around the world, and a flagrant violation of human rights and international covenants, the newspaper explained. Al Raya concluded by holding the occupation fully responsible for the repercussions of these racist policies and provocative actions, which requires a unified Arab and Islamic position to support the steadfastness of the Palestinian people and protect their sanctities from confiscation and Judaization. Al-Watan newspaper reported that European Union confirmed that the situation regarding the expulsion of Palestinian families in Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in Jerusalem and other areas of East Jerusalem raises serious concern, adding that these actions are illegal under international humanitarian law and will lead to fueling tensions on the ground. It pointed out what the United Nations announced about the decision to evacuate Palestinians from Jerusalem which is an Israeli violation of international law. It explained that the United Nations confirmed that East Jerusalem is still part of the occupied Palestinian territories, stressing that all Israeli legislative and administrative procedures are null and void in accordance with international law. The newspaper indicated that the evacuation of Palestinians from their homes in Jerusalem is a violation of the law, considering it ethnic cleansing and a described war crime. It also referred to the US State Department spokesperson announcement that Washington called on Israeli and Palestinian officials to act decisively to calm tensions and stop the violence, stressing the importance of avoiding any steps that might aggravate the situation, such as evacuations in East Jerusalem and settlement activity, home demolitions and terrorist acts. It concluded by saying that the American position is somewhat advanced compared to what we have witnessed in recent years, but it is not sufficient at all, adding that it will be acceptable and reasonable when the United States calls things by their names and refuses to equate the killer with the victim. It stated that what is happening in Jerusalem must be subject to clear and explicit condemnation and real accountability, in order to reach a just, comprehensive and final solution before it is too late.
