Newspapers: Qatar, Iran Have Exemplary, Historic Relations Based on Respect and Common Interests

Doha, February 22 (QNA) - In their Tuesday editorials, Qatari newspapers highlighted HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani's meeting, at the Amiri Diwan, with HE President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ebrahim Raisi, and the official talks held to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in various fields for the good and interest of the two countries and people. The newspapers highlighted the keenness of the leadership of the two countries to develop bilateral relations and push them to broader horizons, in line with the history of Qatari-Iranian relations, which have always been an example to be followed, especially in critical moments in the history of the region. For its part, Al-Arab newspaper said that there is a consensus among observers that the meeting of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and HE President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ebrahim Raisi in Doha on Monday could inaugurate a new phase of relations between Tehran and Gulf states in general. This is aligned with the Qatari vision of harnessing Dohas relations with the various capitals of brotherly and friendly countries in the interest of the stability of its Arab surroundings. The newspaper stressed that the important statements of HH the Amir and HE the President Raisi carry many meanings aimed at consolidating stability throughout the Gulf region; in particular, HH the Amirs renewed assertion that dialogue is the best way to resolve all differences and face the various challenges that the region is going through. His Highness made clear that he was briefed by HE the Iranian President on the outcome of the Vienna negotiations regarding the nuclear agreement between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the West, as well as its importance and impact on the security and stability of the region. The paper praised HH the Amir's indication that the State of Qatar is attentively following the progress of the negotiations and hopes that a solution and agreement, that satisfies all parties, and guarantees the right of countries to peaceful uses of nuclear energy in accordance with international agreements and resolutions, will be reached in the near future. The paper noted HE the Iranian President's assertion that his country is looking forward to qualitative development and opening new horizons with the State of Qatar in particular, and with the neighboring countries in the Gulf and the region in general, aspiring for further cooperation between the countries of the region. Al-Arab concluded by emphasizing that the atmosphere of talks between His Highness and HE the Iranian President, the signing of 14 agreements, memoranda of understanding, and executive programs between the two countries are indications that relations between the two neighboring brotherly countries will move to broader horizons and their positive effects will be reflected in the interest of stability of the region. For its part, Al-Sharq newspaper underlined that HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani welcomed HE President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ebrahim Raisi's visit to Doha and his participation in the 6th Summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), which will be held on Tuesday. The Qatari daily noted that HH the Amir and HE the Iranian President held talks session that touched on enhancing economic and investment cooperation, as well as latest regional and international issues. The newspaper said that His Highness described the relations with Iran as historic and affirmed that the signing of an agreement and several memoranda of understanding is a significant matter, looking forward to following up with them to ensure their maximum benefit. HH the Amir commended the important role of the joint economic committee between the two countries, which held its last meeting in Isfahan in November 2020, looking forward to the committee's meeting this year in Doha, the paper added. Al-Watan said that the friendly relations between Qatar and the Islamic Republic of Iran are based on respect and good neighborliness, as neighborliness and Islamic religion are important factors in establishing links between our two people. The two countries are keen to coordinate on a number of regional and international issues of common concern, in the interests of the region's stability, security, and international peace, the newspaper said. The paper said that Iranian exports to Qatar jumped from around $60m between 2016 and 2017 to $250m between 2017 and 2018, adding that a total of 967,503 tonnes of commodities worth $117.13m were exported from Iran to Qatar from March 21, 2021 to January 20, 2022. The paper also mentioned that HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani hosted HE the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ebrahim Raisi and was briefed by on the outcome of the Vienna negotiations regarding the nuclear agreement and its importance and impact on the security and stability of the region. It also noted that Qatar has proposed mediating to ease the tensions and hopes that an agreement will be reached in the near future that satisfies all parties, and guarantees the right of countries to peaceful uses of nuclear energy in accordance with international agreements and resolutions. The Peninsula concluded its editorial by noting President Raisi's statements which highlighted the advantages that the two countries share, affirming that his country is looking forward to qualitative development and opening new horizons with Qatar and the Gulf.
