NGOs’ staff to be trained on financial management

Manama, Apr. 25 (BNA): Labour and Social Development Minister, Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan, has asserted that the initiative which was presented to the Cabinet session recently on the e-platform to train NGOs remotely to enhance their financial management competence aims to qualify NGOs’ workers to obtain specialised professional certificates in financial management.
The move is in line with the eighth recommendation of the Middle East and North Africa Financial Action Task Force (MENAFATF) on combating the financing of terrorism in the non-profit organisations’ sector.
Humaidan said that the Labour Ministry has launched the initiative to support volunteers and charity societies’ workers to enhance their competence in the field of financial management so as to be able to achieve their development goals.
The minister said that the first-of-its-kind initiative targets a total of 400 voluntary workers in NGOs, noting that they will benefit from a professional training programme prepared by financial management experts and accredited by a specialised scientific entity in Bahrain.
He indicated that the initiative will benefit NGOs’ board members and affiliates, university students wishing to engage in voluntary work, affiliates of the Labour Ministry’s Voluntary Work Development Centre, as well as workers in banks, who deal with NGOs.
