NIHR’s chief receives Johns Hopkins University’s student delegation

Manama, Jan. 15 (BNA): National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) Chairperson, Maria Khoury, received here today, in the presence of the member of the NIHR’s Council of Commissioners, Rawdha Salman Al-Aradi, a student delegation from the Johns Hopkins University.   The delegation is on a visit to the kingdom to be informed about its experience in the field of women advancement, in coordination with the Supreme Council for Women (SCW).   Maria Khoury briefed the delegation about the NIHR’s terms of reference and role in dealing with the human rights situation in the kingdom, in addition to its joint cooperation with the SCW in everything aimed at consolidating women’s access to all their rights.   She pointed out that the great and tangible achievements of the Bahraini women in the political, economic, social and cultural fields have strengthened their status as an essential partner in the Bahraini society, alongside men, and have bbecome an honourable role model at the local, regional and international levels.   She highlighted the NIHR’s efforts to enable women to get decent work through adopting the gender equality and women empowerment policy, noting that 60% of the members of the NIHR’s Council of Commissioners and Secretariat-General’s employees are women, in accordance with the SCW’s endeavours to empower women and integrate their needs in the kingdom’s comprehensive development process to achieve equality and non-discrimination.   Members of the Johns Hopkins University's student delegation expressed sincere thanks and appreciation to the NIHR’s chief for the warm welcome accorded to them.   They also asked questions about the NIHR’s work and terms of reference, and were answered accordingly.
