NIHR accomplishments underscored

Manama, Nov. 13 (BNA): National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Secretary-general Khalifa bin Ali Al Fadhil said the National Institution has accomplished a great deal over the past nine years since it was established by Royal Order 46/2009 and Law 26/2014 amended by Statutory Decree 20/2016 thanks to the incessant support of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.
The NIHR was established as an independent national mechanism in accordance with the Paris Principles governing the establishment of similar national human rights institutions around the globe, to protect and boost human rights protection in Bahrain, he said.
Marking the National Institution for Human Rights ninth anniversary which falls on November 10, Dr. Al Fadhil said the NIHR over the past few years launched the Complaints Hotline 80001144, the Call Centre using an integrated communication management systems (CMS).
The National Institution also provided training and awareness programmes in various domains aimed to spread the culture of human rights in the community and targets all community segments. The NIHR also organized various international conferences and forums in partnership with the relevant organizations.
Al Fadhil pointed out that the success of the National Institution in training and enlightenment of more than 2,500 individuals last year confirms it has accomplished more than its goals.
The NIHR obtained the ISO 9001:2015 for its quality management systems (QMS) which is considered an exceptional step that mirrors the General Secretariat’s keenness on achievement of high efficiency in the provision of its services, he said.
The NIHR was listed by the United Nations (UN) Global Compact Initiative as the first Bahraini non-profit organization for its compliance with the ten principles of the initiative based on respecting human rights, the environment, workers’ rights, fighting corruption and boosting its national role.
He reaffirmed that the National Human Rights Institution will continue to provide the best legal services up to the highest international standards and achieve its goals and objectives as stipulated in its statute.
