NIHR Chairperson receives Philippines' special envoy

Manama, Dec. 31 (BNA): The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Chairperson Maria Khoury received Robert Borje, Special Envoy of the President of the Philippines, Presidential Assistant on Foreign Affairs and Chief of Presidential Protocol, and Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for PHL Department Sarah Lou Arriola.
Khoury emphasized that Bahrain attaches great importance to providing appropriate conditions to guarantee the rights of expatriate workers, and is constantly working on developing laws and enacting relevant legislation in order to achieve justice with all expats.
The meeting reviewed NIHR’s efforts to ensure human rights for everyone, and its plan to get in contact and follow-up with expatriate workers to find out their human rights conditions, especially in light of the current circumstances of the coronavirus pandemic.
They discussed issues of common interest, and ways of strengthening cooperation and coordination to unify efforts in areas related to expatriate labor and human rights.
The special envoy expressed his appreciation for the great humanitarian efforts made by NIHR towards expatriate workers in general, and the Filipino community in particular, praising the strong relations linking the two countries, wishing the Kingdom and its people continued progress and prosperity.
