NIHR inspects reform, rehabilitation facility

Manama, Jan. 3 (BNA): A delegation of National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s commissioners led by Maria Khoury has visited the Reformatory and Rehabilitation Centre at Jau and inspected the progress of inmates’ sitting for their academic tests, in the presence of officers in charge of the facility. The commissioners reviewed the procedures as the student inmates sat for their academic tests to ensure compliance with global standards inand the provision of suitable environment and that the inmates are given all their rights in equal opportunity. Khoury praised the Ministry of Interior (MoI)’s efforts spearheaded by the General Directorate for Reformation and Rehabilitation to provide advanced educational programmes that will boost the inmates’ efficiency and their academic progress by investing their own energies in educational progress and specialized vocational skills in order to easily reintegrate into the society. She commended the student inmates for their keenness to advance their academic status. The commissioners visit comes as part of the NIHR's 2019 itinerary of field trips in its capacity as the Kingdom's independent national human rights institution created in accordance with the Paris Principles governing national human rights institutions around the world and accredited by the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions.
