NIHR President meets EU Deputy Permanent Representative

Geneva, Nov. 16 (BNA): The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) Chairman Ali Ahmed Al Derazi met with Deputy Permanent Representative of the European Union (EU) delegation in Geneva Ambassador Thomas Wagner. The meeting came on the sidelines of NIHR’s visit to Geneva. Al Derazi gave an overview of NIHR’s role in discussing human rights issues and receiving and processing complaints through communication with concerned authorities. He also spoke about the recommendations of international conference organized by NIHR on Bahrain's experience in applying alternative penalties, which addressed supporting the expansion of the alternative penalties law in Bahrain and social integration of those sentenced by the law. The meeting discussed technical cooperation and capacity-building programs offered by the EU for the advancement of national and civil society institutions.
