Nissan, HFH Thailand build houses for flood victims

BANGKOK, January 22 (TNA) - Habitat for Humanity (HFH) Thailand and Nissan Motor (Thailand) have jointly launched a housing project for 33 flood-affected households in Sam Khok district of Bangkok's suburban Pathum Thani province, hit by a flooding crisis in the country in late 2011. A ceremony to launch the project was jointly presided by President of Japan-based Nissan Motor Asia-Pacific and Nissan Motor (Thailand) Takayuki Kimura, Vice President of HFH Asia-Pacific Rick Hathaway and President of HFH Thailand Chamnarn Wangtal on Tuesday, in which two local Nissan dealers and over 100 Nissan and HFH Thailand staffs participated. Under the project, Nissan donates 4.35 million baht in cash and two Nissan Navara 4x4 pick-up trucks to HFH Thailand, worth about 6.27 million baht totally. The cash donation will be used to build 15 houses and repair 18 homes for the flood-hit households. The two Nissan Navara trucks will be then used for daily operations concerning the construction and repair of the houses and for expanded assistance to other households with substandard living conditions to then raise their quality of life. Habitat for Humanity Thailand was established in 1998 with an aim to improve the quality of life of Thai people by helping build houses for them and improving their communities in order to create a sustainable change with positive and lasting impacts.
