Northern Governorate to carry out social rehabilitation programme

Manama, May 14 (BNA): Northern Governor Ali bin Al-Shaikh Abdul Hussain Al Asfoor lauded the royal directives to ensure effective enforcement of the alternative punishment law, stressing the positive impact it would have on the community. He also praised the directives of the Interior Minister and the Minister of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments regarding the governorates’ implementation of rehabilitation and training programmes. The Northern Governor was speaking during the Security Committee meeting which convened in the presence of the Northern Governorate Police Director General. He revealed that the governorate, in cooperation with the Police Directorate, the Verdicts Enforcement Directorate and the Crime Prevention Directorate at the Interior Ministry, is working on adopting a social rehabilitation and training programme that aims to socially integrate the convicts and provide them with assistance in rectifying their behaviour. The Northern Governor pointed out the governorate’s keenness to provide suitable job vacancies in concordance with the community service and the alternative punishment law. He added that the governorate is preparing to host a discussion session during Ramadan Majlis which is set to be held next Friday evening (May 17). The debate will cast light on the content and goals of the law with the participation of lawyer Farid Ghazi Rafie, the Verdicts Enforcement Directorate and the Crime Prevention Directorate. The Northern Governor and the audience discussed the date and place of holding “Ma’an” exhibition for security awareness in the Northern Governorate.
