Odor- free helmets for motorcycle taxi passengers

BANGKOK, Jan 8 (TNA) – The police distributed silver nano – coated helmets for motorcycle taxi drivers, so they can offer odor-free helmets for their passengers to save them from severe injuries in case of an accident. Police spokesman Pol General Wirachai Songmetta unveiled the new campaign in relation to cut casualties from road accidents. Three hundred silver nano-coated helmets, invented by Chulalongkorn University were handed out to motorcycle taxi drivers in Bangkok, where many commuters choose to hail motorcycle taxis during the rush hours to go through a traffic jam. The new innovation can keep the helmets cleaned as it can kill germs and get rid of unpleasant smell, which make many passengers refuse to wear them. The police spokesman said each year, 8,500 road accidents involve motorcycles. About 80 per cent of casualties have head injuries without helmets. It costs the country about 34 billion baht a year for their hospital treatment. Moreover, public members can also have their helmets cleaned with injection of silver nano- particles at service points around the Royal Thai Police Bureau. (TNA)
