Office of Ombudsman hails Bahrain’s UNHRC membership win

Manama, Oct. 12 (BNA): The Office of the Ombudsman has extended deepest congratulations to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier. This came as Bahrain won the membership of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) for the period 2019-2021, by 165 votes, in the elections held today at the United Nations General Assembly in New York City. The Office of the Ombudsman stressed, in a statement, that the kingdom’s winning the UNHRC membership for the third time in its history reflects the International Community’s appreciation of the kingdom’s unwavering interest in enhancing respect for human rights principles, which is manifested in its legislation, laws and executive and institutional measures, including the establishment of national human rights institutions and bodies. The Office of the Ombudsman commended the efforts exerted by the Foreign Affairs Ministry, and all ministries and institutions that contributed to the kingdom’s success in attaining such a key achievement which is considered a clear international recognition of the extent of the kingdom’s progress in all human rights fields.
