Officials now confirm safety at gas leakage area
BANGKOK, March 23 (TNA) - Officials of PTT Public Company Limited (PTT), Thailand's largest petroleum firm, has now confirmed public safety at an area in Bangkok's Pattanakarn area, after a gas truck crashed into a bridge and exploded early Friday morning.
The PTT staff, who were sent to the area, reported that they had measured the density of the leaking gas in the area and found its low and safe level at only 2 per cent. After being guaranteed the safety, local people were, therefore, returning back to their houses and buildings in the area.
The accident happened on Ban Pa Bridge near Pattanakarn 22 Road at around 5am and injured a pedestrian. Firefighters were spraying water over the gas truck carrying about four tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to contain flames from the leaking gas and they were waiting about seven hours for all the gas to discharge and burn.
Traffic on Pattanakarn Road resumed Friday afternoon. The truck, however, burned itself out after eight hours, as firefighters were unable to put out the fire and had to allow it to burn itself out.#END
