Ofoq to unveil Persian translation of “Pigeon English”

TEHRAN,June 11(MNA) – Ofoq Publishing Company will unveil a Persian translation of British writer Stephen Kelman’s debut novel “Pigeon English” during a ceremony in Tehran tomorrow. Translator Mohammad Javadi and groups of literati have been invited to the ceremony, which will be held at the Ofoq Bookstore at 6 p.m., Ofoq has announced on its website. “Pigeon English” was a shortlisted nominee for the 2011 Man Booker Prize. The novel tells the story of Harri Opoku, an 11-year-old Ghanaian immigrant caught up in gang warfare on a south London estate. “Pigeon English” was partially inspired by the murder of Damilola Taylor on a Peckham estate in 2000 as well as by the author’s own experiences of growing up on a council estate. The bookstore is located on the corner of Osku Alley near Sepideh Cinema on Enqelab Ave.
