One dies in fire at Vietnamese community in Thai Northeast

MUKDAHAN, THAILAND, October 3 (TNA) - A fire broke out at an ethnic Vietnamese community in Thailand's northeastern Mukdahan province Tuesday night, killing a person and causing over 10 million baht damage. The fatal blaze raged the local community, where Thai nationals with Vietnamese descent live in old wooden houses, located near the One-Hundred-Year Market in downtown Mukdahan. It took several fire fighters more than three hours to put out the fire. Five houses and a warehouse storing goods for sales at Mukdahan’s Indochina Market, a well-known border market, were destroyed by the fire. Muang Mukdahan Mayor Pinit Charoensuk and other concerned officials inspected the scene Wednesday morning, as an official investigation into the cause of the fire has been continuing even though it was initially assumed to be a short circuit.
