Over 20 Malaysian, International Speakers To Share Insights On Inequality at ISWC 2021
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 17 (Bernama) -- More than 20 Malaysian and international speakers, including Nobel Prize-winning economist Prof Joseph Stiglitz and “Mission Economy” author Mariana Mazzucato, are expected to share their insights on topics around the issues of inequality at the ninth International Social Wellbeing Conference (ISWC 2021) on Nov 23-24, 2021.
The hybrid conference, themed “The New Narrative: Turning the Tide on Inequality”, is jointly organised by the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), Ministry of Finance, Implementation and Coordination Unit under the Prime Minister’s Office, and International Social Security Association (ISSA).
The topics would include income inequality, education and social inequality, disparities in healthcare, gender-responsive policies and the role of social protection in reducing inequality, the EPF said in a statement today.
Malaysian Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob is expected to launch the conference, while Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz is expected to deliver the closing remarks.
“ISWC 2021 will focus on the role of social protection in reducing inequality in its various forms, while highlighting the importance of addressing it to ensure an inclusive future for all,” the EPF said.
The conference, organised in partnership with Maybank, BNP Paribas, BNY Mellon, and FWD Takaful Bhd, aims to continue creating awareness on social protection through the exchange of ideas and perspectives, and boost policy implementation, as well as inspire accountability among industry stakeholders.
ISWC 2021 will be open to policymakers, industry leaders, social activists, think tanks, and members of the public who are interested in making a difference and creating societal impact.
