Palestinian flag displayed in center of New York

NEW YORK, August 21 (Itar-Tass) - Protesters against the Israeli operation in Gaza hung a huge state flag of Palestine in the center of New York on Wednesday. The flag was suspended to the Manhattan Bridge across the East River. The huge flag colored black, white, green and red had stayed on the bridge for approximately half an hour before it was removed by New York police. Earlier on Wednesday several hundred protesters took part in a march organized in protest against the operation conducted by the Israeli administration in Gaza. Other protest acts against the military operation in Gaza have been held in New York in recent weeks. A demonstration staged near Times square in the end of July drew the biggest number of participants estimated at around 2,500. The protesters, who carried Palestinian flags, had called on the U.S. administration to stop assistance to Israel. A total of 2,040 Palestinian citizens have been killed in Gaza since Israel began its military operation on July 8. Israel has reported 64 servicemen dead since. A new spiral of armed confrontation might again trigger a full- scale war, observers warned.
