Paramilitary rangers killed, injured in Pattani

PATTANI, Sept 12 (TNA) --- Two paramilitary rangers were killed and four others injured when they were ambushed on their way back from a checkpoint in Nong Chik district of Pattani province late Tuesday night. Witnesses said that at least five people launched the attack with war weapons on six paramilitary rangers who were riding three motorcycles on a road to Don Na village in Bang Khao sub-district. Rangers Suchart Kongsuk and Tanadet Chaimusik were killed. The injured were identified as Uthai Prathumwal, Niroot Wang-iad, Warakorn Nimmak and Isarapong Kaeoraksa. Officials said the attackers arrived on a boat that was moored nearby. The ambush led to a gunfight. Then the attackers fled the scene on their boat through a canal that adjoins the sea. Officials assume it was an insurgent attack. (TNA)
