Parliament considers the law on privacy

Astana, November 05, 2009 (Khabar) - Majilis has approved in first reading a bill which provides increased penalties for violations of the privacy of citizens, including the right to confidentiality of personal deposits and savings, correspondence and telephone conversations.
According to Vice Minister of Justice Marat Beketayev, the document aimed for strengthening the protection of citizens' Constitutional rights. In particular, the bill provides for increased penalties - fines, which increased to 700 monthly calculated indexes to imprisonment for 5 years with confiscation of property, if violation of rights of privacy was done with using of service position. Also criminal penalties introduced for the first time for falsification of the operational-search materials, the policemen will be imprisoned up to two years with a ban on taking their previous posts, the requirements for police and for the protection of privacy are also strengthened.

Ramadan Sarpekov, Majilis deputy of Parliament of RK:
- Everybody beginning from the deputy down to the ordinary person who really published or distributed false information, that does not coincide with objectivity, he would be punished. Anyone, any person who violates the law, will fall under this bill.
