Passengers stuck for one hour in tunnel after Moscow metro train crash

MOSCOW, July 15 (Itar-Tass) - People were stuck for about an hour in an underground tunnel between metro stations Park Pobedy and Slavyansky Bulvar, as a metro train car filled with passengers to capacity derailed on Moscow’s Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya blue metro line on Tuesday, witnesses to the accident told Itar-Tass.
“We stayed more than an hour in the tunnel, then evacuation was announced, and we went down the track towards Slavyansky Bulvar,” one of passengers said. Another woman said that everything had occurred unexpectedly.
An Itar-Tass correspondent, who is currently near Slavyansky Bulvar metro station, reported that people going out of the metro were not informed on what had happened. One of passengers said no announcements had been made in the train either.
Witnesses estimate that at least 100 people have been injured. People continue to contact their relatives to make sure that everything is all right.
Emergency response teams and ambulance crews are working on the scene. Sixty-six busses have been organised additionally to transport passengers from Kiyevskaya to Molodezhnaya metro stations of the Arbatsko-Pokrovskaya line. It is recommended that people use other metro lines moving in the direction of Moscow region.
Latest reports say three people died and 75 were taken to hospital.
