Patthalung hit by flash flood

PHATTHALUNG, Jan 16 (TNA) -- The heavy downpours on the Bun-tad Mountain Range in the Thai southern region has caused a flash flood to overflow 70 houses in Kong Ra district of Patthalung province, prompting residents to immediately move their belongings to higher grounds. The continuous downpours which began on Friday night and well into the middle of the night on the Bun-tad mountain range in Patthalung province's Kong Ra district has caused a flash flood to rapidly flow down the Praiwan waterfall into the Chalerm canal, which in turn, increased the water in the canal to overflow its banks and flooded around 70 residences in areas of Moo 12, 7, 4 and 3 of Chalerm subdistrict of the province, prompting all villagers to move their belongings in the middle of last night. A witness from the Moo 12 village said the flash flood came really fast and immediately flooded his home late last night, when all of his family members were already asleep. By the time everyone woke up, their belongings were underwater and so everyone had to move their belongings to higher grounds, though some of the furniture were already damaged. The rainfall in the Kong Ra district has now stopped, and authorities is expecting the water levels in the area to return to normal within 3 hours, after which relevant authorities would thoroughly inspect for damages and provide assistance to the villagers.
