Pekanbaru To Build Waste Incineration Power Plant In 2014

Pekanbaru, Riau Province, Oct 9 (Antara) - The G20 Environmental Solutions Group (ESG) Consortium plans to build a Waste Incineration Power Plant (PLTSa) in 2014 that will be able to generate 10 megawatts (MW) of electricity for city of Pekanbaru in the Riau province. "We plan to build the PLTSa in 2014 and the Commercial Operating Date (COD) can be fixed for the middle of the year," the General Manager of PT Pengembangan Investasi Riau (PIR) Tri Ranti said in a press release on Wednesday. The G20 ESG Consortium is an association company made up of PT PIR and the Pekanbaru Developing Regional Company (PD Pembangunan Pekanbaru), with PT PIR having been appointed the consortium leader. PT PIR will also manage the legal affairs for the power purchase agreement with the State Electricity Company (PLN). Ranti said the consortium was conducting a feasibility study after signing a Memorandum of Understanding with PT PIR, PD Pekanbaru and the G20 ESG in March. "The Pekanbaru Mayor has welcomed the progress that has been made by the G20 ESG Consortium. He also hopes that PDP Pekanbaru will acquire the land that is located near a waste landfill in the Muara Fajar area of Pekanbaru," Ranti noted, adding that the consortium will build the PLTSa in a hectare-wide area near the landfill. Meanwhile, Surya Harpennas, the Project Power Plant Manager at PT PIR said prices of electricity sourced from the PLTSa will have to increase from RP1,050 per kWh to RP1,450 per kWh, based on the Law No19/2013 of Mineral Resources and Energy Ministry. On the other hand, the source of energy for the PLTSa in Pekanbaru is in abundance as the average waste production had reached 254,980 kilograms per day, based on data from February 2013. "We could get at least 7,139,450 kilograms of waste for the energy source in a month," said Adizar, the Head of the Riau People and Village Administration Empowerment Agency (BPMPD). He further added that the government should manage the waste disposal management through a regional regulation.
