The Peninsula Calls on International Community to Assume Its Responsibilities to Confront Israeli Violations

Doha, August 02 (QNA) - The Peninsula newspaper Monday called on the international community to assume legal and moral responsibility to address the suffering of millions of Palestinians under siege in the Gaza Strip, and the occupied territories in general.
In this regard, the Qatari daily underlined the UN latest report issued yesterday by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in the Palestinian Territories (OCHA) which affirmed that the Israeli occupation authorities demolished 59 buildings and displaced 96 Palestinians in the West Bank within the past two weeks.
According to the report, the occupation forces injured 615 Palestinians throughout the West Bank, including 24 children, the youngest of whom is a three month-old baby, the paper said, adding that during the same period of two weeks, the occupation forces carried out 91 search operations, and arrested 158 Palestinians throughout the West Bank.
The newspaper stated that Israel, which has faced record number of global condemnations since its founding, is well aware that it is a country based on injustice, therefore it demolishes buildings existing before its establishment under the pretext of lack of building permits, adding that under the pretext of controlling protests, Israel shoots on children in cars with their families, fires live ammunition, rubber-coated metal bullets and poison gas canisters on innocent Palestinians.
The newspaper pointed out that the actual reason behind these acts of aggression is grabbing more land, confiscating properties, terrorizing innocent people and uprooting them from their homeland by forcing to leave land that they had no other home except.
The Peninsula said that the State of Qatar recently warned against the danger of continuing the current situation in the Palestinian territories and the lack of a sustainable settlement of the Palestinian cause.
The Qatari daily pointed to the State of Qatar's statement made during UN Security Council meeting on the "Situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian Question", in which HE the State of Qatar's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, drew attention to the repeated provocations and attacks continuously being carried out by the Israeli occupying forces in Jerusalem and settlers on the Islamic and Christian holy sites, especially the Holy Mosque.
Sheikha Alya called on the UN Security Council to assume its responsibilities in enforcing international law, implementing its resolutions, putting an end to the illegal occupation and settlement and supporting the achievement of peace, the paper underlined.
In conclusion The Peninsula stressed that any attempts to change the legal, historical and cultural status of the occupied city of Jerusalem constitute a violation of international law, relevant Security Council and General Assembly resolutions, and that provocative practices and other illegal measures, such as confiscating and demolishing Palestinian property, as in Sheikh Jarrah and Silwan neighbourhoods, reflect a policy to Judaize Jerusalem, expand settlements and disregard international law and resolutions of international legitimacy.
