The Peninsula: Human Development is One of Qatar's Important Pillars

Doha, February 17 (QNA) - The Peninsula newspaper said in its Thursday editorial that the State of Qatar pays great attention to Qatari employees as the basis for the comprehensive development process adopted by the State, noting that the country has over the years implemented a number of initiatives to increase the number of Qataris in the workforce across state institutions and industries. Today, Qatari nationals occupy leading positions in a range of industries, contributing to the development of the country. Qatar National Vision 2030 highlights human development as one of the pillars, the newspaper underlined, pointing out that over the decades, the government has been focusing on providing world class school and university education to the people, in addition to a number of initiatives to increase opportunities for Qatari women in diverse fields. The newspaper highlighted the Public Works Authority's (Ashghal) announcement that the number of Qatari employees in the Authority more than doubled over the past 4 years, with an increase of 135%. The number of Qatari engineers in the Authority increased by 163% during the period, the Peninsula stated, noting that there are currently 425 Qatari engineers in Ashghal who are employed with a scholarship or as a replacement/Qatarization plan followed by Ashghal, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030. Similarly several other institutions are also working to increase the number of Qataris in their workforce, the paper underlined, referring to Qatar Airways that has its own Al Darb Qatarization programme. The airlines National Scholarships Programme provides financial and academic support to Qatari nationals studying at local or foreign universities to achieve the skills required to successfully contribute to Qatar Airways Group, the newspaper added. The Shura Council has also been discussing the issue of employment opportunities for Qatari nationals through developing human resources and aligning them with the job market, said the Peninsula. The Economic and the Financial Affairs Committee of the Shura Council discussed the role of the private sector in absorbing job seekers and localizing jobs in the private sector. The Shura Council has stressed the need to link education outputs to the needs of the labor market and the importance of planning human resources, in accordance with the requirements of the labor market to promote comprehensive national development and to achieve Qatar National Vision 2030, the Peninsula said. Concluding, the Peninsula praised the concerted government efforts to develop local human resources to achieve Qatar National Vision 2030. (QNA)
