People in Thailand urged to closely monitor Gaemi storm
BANGKOK, October 5 (TNA) - Concerned agencies have suggested people in Thailand to closely monitor updates of the approaching Gaemi storm amid the changing situation daily.
The suggestion was also made by the government-appointed Water and Flood Resources Management Committee (WFRMC) and the National Disaster Warning Centre, which jointly reported the updated situation in a press conference Friday, saying that the Gaemi storm is now likely to land in neighbouring Vietnam by 9pm on October 7 and Thailand by October 8.
The two government-run agencies said they, therefore, expect heavy downpours in Bangkok and at least a dozen other provinces, namely Ubon Ratchathani, Sri Sa Ket, Chaiyaphum, Prachinburi, Sa Keao, Rayong, Chantaburi, Trat, Ayutthaya and those in the country's western region.
Meanwhile, Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has assigned civil defence volunteers in all provinces to help cope with impacts from the Gaemi storm and military officers to be well-prepared to assist people affected by the approaching Gaemi storm. (TNA)
