New York, Dec. 10 (BNA): Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations in New York, Ambassador Jamal Faris Al Ruwaie, has affirmed that the Kingdom of Bahrain has placed youth empowerment among its most important national priorities. The Kingdom, he added, has consequently witnessed many successful and distinguished initiatives aimed at creating an ideal environment for youth to participate in the development process, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, supported by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. This came as the Permanent Representative took part virtually in a meeting held by the Republic of South Africa in its capacity as the current President of the Security Council. During the meeting, themed “Youth, Peace and Security: Capitalising on Intergenerational Dialogue to build and sustain peace and enhance social cohesion at community levels”, Ambassador Al-Ruwaie reviewed the most prominent ongoing initiatives of the Kingdom of Bahrain to enhance the role of youth in public life and invest in their talent, in a way that prepares them to contribute effectively to development and progress. He noted the inauguration the Youth Summit 2020 last November by the Representative of His Majesty the King for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs, His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, which aimed to enhance the contribution of youth to the decision-making process and promote their participation in proposing innovative solutions for various types of challenges. The Permanent Representative explained that based on the Kingdom's belief in the importance of promoting the values of mutual understanding, respect, interfaith dialogue and peaceful coexistence, the King Hamad Global Centre for Peaceful Coexistence has launched the King Hamad Faith in Leadership fellowship Programme in coordination with the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge and the British Training Academy for Training to inculcate values of openness, pluralism, cultural harmony and diversity in young leaders. The Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations reiterated his happiness over the Kingdom of Bahrain's continued commitment to empowering youth and advancing their role in all fields, especially in implementation of sustainable development goals and enhancement of their role in maintenance of peace and security.
